X Factor vs. Faith Factor
For every 1 Drake, there are thousands, if not millions that aspire the same status. Most will miss the mark. The platinum artists are idolized but their rags to riches stories are not easily duplicated. There’s nothing wrong with dreaming but we live in a world where celebrity has replaced empathy, faith and compassion. Me, myself & I far outweigh they, those and them. Truth is, it doesn’t have to be that way.
4 years ago, God sat me down…literally…lol. 1 year ago, I began to put away my self destructive ways & decided to get back to my life and career but unlike b4, my pursuit of celebrity was put on hold. Instead of flying cross country and appearing in front of large crowds, God put me front and center before crowds of 10. In fact in 2011, I made more money in my 2 secular music appearances than I did in all 64 of my gospel appearances. Yes, this year my profits were smaller but I feel my future is brighter.
I’ve met more drug addicts, sex addicts, adulterers, thugs, prostitutes and self-loathers - all at the altar. The sick and the weak that I once overlooked, I now pray 4. I’m still not used to seeing grown men
cry when I sing. I’m hurt that they are hurt but I’m happy that God is using my broken body/mended spirit to convince them to go on. It doesn’t make for a lot of Twitter followers and most people that I cry with at worship, I’ll never see again but it’s all apart of a job very few singers want.
It’s not without its blessings. God is more receptive to my ambitions because I act halfway right whereas b4, I acted any kind of way and stood for anything. Now when He gives me more, I just brag less. Honestly, what singer doesn’t want the X Factor stage? But till He gets me there, I’ve just taken the Faith Factor stage. It doesn’t make me better. It makes me different. It aint for everybody but neither is being the next Lady Gaga.
